THE HOLIDAYS.

-At prosentthere is every niospeofc of there i being lovely weather for the; holidays, yes-, iterday being. one "of the most perfect days of the year, and it is to be hoped the rain will hold off. Arrangements in Waikato have been made to carry out sports on both to-day and Monday. j *;'■ BALLOON ASCENT. 'This afternoon one of the most interesting, as well as • the most courageous feats ever performed in Waikato will be enacted on Sydney Square, when Miss Leila Adair will make a balloon ascent and parachute jump. As there are very few people in Waikato who have ever .seen a balloon, much less an ascent, the occasion should prove a great attraction. The inflation, which is, made r with hot air by means of the Montgolfier process, will be commenced at 3.30 p.m., and the ascent will, take place at 4 o'clock. Should the day prove calm,'the balloon will make an almost perpendicular ascent and Miss Adair will descend in almost the same place. The charge for admission has been fixed at Is for adults ihd 6d for children, and the ascent will be imrie under the patronage of His Worship the Mayor, MrW.Dey. Five members of the West End (Ponsonby) Lawn Tennis Club arrived in Hamilton yesterday and will lo battle against the local club this afternoon. The West End players are Mrs Gentles and Messrs H. Gentles, P. ,F. Battley, A, Goldioand A. G. Cooke, and the Hamilton club will be represented by Miss A. Jolly and Messrs W.N.O. von Sturmer, J. Hill, P. E. Stevens and J. H. Hume. Afternoon tea will be dispensed by the lady members of the Hamilton Club. EASTER MONDAY. The annual snorts in connection with the Ngaruawahia Rowing Club will be held at Ngaruawahia, and judging from the large number of entries some good contests may be expected. A grand ball will be held in the evening.

At Alexandra the Waipa Amateur Athletic Club (the only amateur association, in Waikato) will hold their annual sports meeting! A very good programme has been drawn up, and there are splendid entries for the various, events The greatest interest no doubt will centre round'the 300 yds. Ladies' Bracelet, for which there are eleven entrants, and of these the chance of G, Roper, who is handicapped at 11 yards, is most ■ fancied. In the evening the Alexandra Dramatic Company will perform the well-known drama''Caste." . The Cambridge: Athletij Club will hold their annual gathering in the Government paddock, and everything points to a highly successful.meeting.. Fifteen events are set down for discussion, and as there are large entries the competitions should prove very exciting.
