INTERPROVINCIAL.

(BY TELEGRAI'II.—PRESS ASSOCIATION), CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night, SiiEAUixa commenced at Leslie Hill yesterday. More than tho usual number of shearers arc swagging it this season. The charge against Eden George of damaging his pliotogrtiplriu apparatus with intent to injure others, was dismissed this evening the Justices hold, ing that there was not sufficient evidence that ho had done the mischief himself, although his conduct had been foolish, and tho conduct of other parties was also culpable. The charge against Gersteiikorn of stealing the letter was not gone into. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Tho following have passed their examination as mine managers, H. F. Logan, Picton ; W. Home, Coromandol; T. Mengan Thames; M. Homeck. Reofton ; and under the Coal Miners' Act, D. Jobson, Canter-

Sir J. Whitakcr and Hon E. Mitohelson are expected back on Monday. The former remains in Wellington while the other Ministers are away. Hon. T. Hislop returned last night and Hon. T. Fergus leaves for tlie South shortly. Tho cases against a Mexican and an Indian lately connected with Wirth's Show of stealing property bo> longing to the fir.ii wero dismissed. Further proceedings are likely to arise out of these cases. The Government do not intend to send a special steamer in search for the survivors of the Assaye, as the Hineinoa is now in the vicinity with orders to look out for any castaways. It is feared if she struck on tho Snares there is no possibility ef there being any survivors as there is only one landing place. Turnbull and Co., had fifty boxes of spirits on board, num« bered from 51 to 100, and marked as described. None of the other brands mentioned are exactly like, but they correspond closely to goods consigned to Wellington firms. There is little evidence from the cargo picked up at the Charhaoi Islands, to identify it with that on board the missing barque Assaye. According to the inanif sst which is held hero it is thought possible that one case marked T in a diamond may be one case of a consignment of brandy for W. and G. Turnbull and Co., the local agents of tho vessel, but from enquiry made from the various department of the Government service, which are known to have goods on board, none of the marks shown on their invoices correspond with those mentioned in the telegram. The inquest on the fire at the old Government Printing office, occupied the coroner all day. The evidence showed that the fire broke out in the ithographic department, but beyond this there was no evidence to uhow the origin of the fire,' and the jury accordingly found an open, verdict. A movement is on foot here to form a body composed of delegates from the various assemblies of the Knights of Labour in Now Zealand, and it is suggested that the proposed body should meet in Wellington at regular intervals for the transaction of business relative to erder. At the inquest on Charles Neil&ou, who committed suicide while of unsound mindj the evidence showed that the doctors, in committing him, noted on the certificate that ho was of a suicidal tendency, and he was therpfore placed in a padded room. Ho, however, managed to elude the vigilance of the wardens, and, by means of a sheet, hanged himself to ouo of tho ventilators.
