The Times deprecates such a course, and considers it impossible to adopt a scheme of retaliation. Ottawa, October 9. In the course of an interview to-day Sir Charles Tupppr. in referring to the McKinloy Tariff Bill, declared that Canada would establish a line of steamers between Vancouver Island and Australia, which was the quickest route of transit from the colonies to England. Mr Laurieu, leader of the Canadian liberal party, asserts that the only salvation for Canada is unrestricted reciprocity with the United States The Opposition intend to tight the next election ou this issue and are oonfident of success.
