Our leader and other matter are unavoidably held over. Cholera is declining in Madrid. The Dublin and Wexford railway strike has collapsed. The Emperor of Germany has started fur St. Petersburg. War between San Salvador and Honduras seems imminent. Phylloxera has appeared in the Marne smd Rhine districts. Uneasiness is still felt at the position of affairs in tho Argentine. In the market reports from Dunedin, of August 7th, bullocks sold at from £8 to £1) 10a ; extra heavy, £10 15s to m. The last meet of the hounds in Waikato this season, was at Cambridge, on Wednesday, when an indifferent day's spo't was had, the hounds not being able to follow the drag. Several rather severe falls occurred, but wo do not anticipate any very serious results. John Wright, of Hamilton, was sent down to Mount Eden (iaol, on Thursday last, for having failed to comply with the order of the court with reference to the payment c.f hospital fees, due by him for t.he treatment of his wife in the Waikato District Hospital.

The Pakuranga hounds, under Mr T. Btown, returned to Auckland by train vis-itordiiy, after a very successful season in Wuikato, during which, we are happy to say, no serious accidents occurred, although at most nl the hunts there were just sutftnent spills to keep tho excitement from Sagging.

The annual meeting of the members of the South Auckland Racing Cluo will bo held in Tki: Waikalo Tdiiis Buildings, on Saturday evening next, at 7.30. In addition to the usual rontino business and the election of it committee foe the Vuar, there is business of importance to be brought up, and a good attendance is requested.

Wirth's Circus is coming- They npnn ill Hamilton on Friday and Saturday text. Since the wonderfully artistic bills have been posted in Hamilton, this is the engrossing topic, more particularly amongst this younger members of the community, who are looking forward with pleasurable anticipation for the arrival of of the great show. Wiiikato people who visited the circus in Auckland speak of it as the very best show of its kind they have ever seen, not even excepting the great Chiarini Circus. We are pleaded to hear that the proprietors have reason to be satisfied with their New Zealand trip 30 far. It gives us pleasure to enlist the support of the Waikato public <m behalf of Wirth's Circus, as in this way, to in some degree recognise the generous actions of the proprietors during their season in Auckland, in giving entertainments on behalf of different charitable institutions.
