The hon, J. A. Tole. Minister of Justice, addressed his constituents at Newmarket on Wednesday evening. A vote of thauks and confidence in the hon. gentleman waR carried by an overwhelming majority.

The Rev. H. R. Dewsbury will deliver his popular lecture on Lord Macaulay in the Public Hall, Hamilton, on Tuesday evening, in aid of the Wesleyan ciicuit fund. As this is the last opportunity, for some time at any rate, that the public will have of hearing Mr Dewsbury, we ha\e no doubt there will be a crowded house on the occasion.

The usual monthly meeting of the Hamilton West School Committee was held on Thursday night, when the following correspondence was laid before them : A letter from the head matter in reference to two boys, whose general conduct the master felt was calculated to do harm to the school, and who appeared to got beyond the contiol of thoir parent!?. The committee decided not to tike any action until they had had an interview with the father and could discuss with him the most desirable action to take regarding them. The secretary was instructed to write and request the father's presence at a meeting of the committee next week. Jn reference to Mr Bindon's letter asking tho co-operation of the committee in cairying out the proposed snorts at Easter for all children attending the public schools in W.iikiito, the proposal was favourably entertained, and a reply was oidered to b* sent to that effect. A circular letter from the Board of Education, pointing out that many small repairs to the dwellinghouse*", and the keeping in good order <if the ground*, might fairly bo expected to be done by the occupant 1 ., was ordered to be forwaided as a matter of instruction to the head teacher. The board's reply to the committee's communication in leferenco to the appointment of a .sinking master, to the effect that tho Bo>rd did not contemplate making another appointment, was considered un-»atisfactoiy, and the secretary was instructed to bend a telegram to the Board stating that the Waikato committees objected to this, as similar appointments in other parts of the province were still continued.

The Kirikiriroa Road Board held their usual monthly mooting yesterday afternoon, Present: Messrs A. Primrose (Cairman), Runciman, and Thomas. Tho engineer reported that Owen had completed his contract at the Ngaruawahia drains and cleared the road past Henderson's. He was authorised to put in a set of pipes at the crossing near Edgecumbe's property at once. Ca«sidy's contract was completed on the Hukanui road, although great trouble had occurred with tho pipe*, one set of which h*d been twice forced out of position by the subsidence of the swamp, and they had eventually to bo shifted to the oppohite side of the gully. Rumney's gravelling had been finished satisfactorily. Tenders for clouring the road at Komakorau were received from Paora Hopere, fis 9d per chain ; E. Rice, 3s 6d ; J. Casby, 3a 4d ; and Henry Welsh, 2s per chain (accepted.) The bridge over the lagoon at Tanpiri was reported by the engineer to be in very bad condition, and required immediate attention. The engineer promised to inspect it again in a. few days. A letter was received from Mr James, Ngaruawahia, stating that tho settlers interested were willing to subscribe £20 toward* making an outfall to the lower culvert in the bußh if the board would make a drain of sufficient capacity to carry off the whter which at present did so much damage in flood times. Th« board had agraod at a previous meoting to supplement any moneys subscribed by the settlers for this pirpose. The engineer promised to inspect the locality and see if the work could be dono for 40. If it can bf» done and the settlers lodge their share with the clerk, tenders will be called for at once and the work proceeded with. Accounts to the amount of £12f> were passed for payment and the meeting broke up. The next meeting of the board will be held on Monday, the stb day of April, not on Friday, the 2nd, as usual.
