Marquis is sire to more prize-taking sires than any other horse South of the line. Marquis' sire, old Prince Charlie, well-knowu in Victoria, to be tho best horse ever imported. Mnggie, dam of Black Champion, gained 4 fiivt and 2 second prizes at Taieii, aud 2 fiist and 1 second at Tokomairiro. Maggie is by old Black Champion, who gained, before leaving Scotland, 8 fii>t and 2 second prizes; when 3 years old, oue £50 premium ; and when 5 yoats old. when lauded in Victoria in 1b(52, one £50 premium; gained first prize at Billarat, and, same year, first at Smputon.
