THE TE AWAMUTU, CAMBRIDGE, AND HAMILTON CARBINE CONTEST, TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, — There Appears to be some misunderstanding in Ithis contest. When the match was arranged, only verbal conditions were made, and the Cambridge team believe those conditions to be, viz. : — "The team scoring the highest total at the three matches to be the winner. Each team to practice only at their .own range, with a' right to claim not friore than one sighting shot at each of their opponents' ranges. One of the Te Awamutu team has been residing in Cambridge for % few weeks who informs me that he believes these are the conditions, and certainly these conditions appear fair and without any advantage given to either team. These matches were mooted some time ago as an experiment to try our home shooting against a strange range ; therefore, if practice is allowed upon opponents' range a very large amount Of the interest is taken out of the experiment, or the teams might just as well fire the three matches, at their own ranges. The Cambridge team will only practice at home. — I am, etc., Marker. Cambridge, 4th October, 1880.
