THE RAILWAY TIME TABLE. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, — The General Manager of the Auckland Railway having addressed a ciroular to Boad Boards and Connty Councils, inviting suggestions for the improvements in the railway time table, I think it would be desirable if there was a general accord in the replies which will be sent, and with a view of assisting in arriving at a suitable time for the greater number, would you be good enough to publish the reply which has been sent by the Pirongia District Board, copy of which is enclosed herewith. — lam, &c, Edwxbd G. MoMinn. [copy.] Pirongia District Board. Harapepe, September 28, 1880. Sir,— l have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter of 22nd inst., and in reply beg to inform you that this Board would suggest the following time table as most suitable in their opinion for the upper Waikato generally:— South train to leave Auckland at 8 a.m,, North train to leave Te Awamutu at 10 a.m. By this time table passengers will not have to leave town at an inconveniently early hour for any section of the community, they would arrive at Te Awamutu, at the present rate of speed, by 2.30 p.m., and coaches might arrive at Alexandra and Cambridge at 4, or 4.15, and 3.30 reBpectively, thus allowing passengers ample time to reach their homes by daylight, and the mails to be sorted and delivered during ordinary post-office hours. The North train leaving Te Awamutu at 10 a.m. would necessitate the Alexandra coach leaving there about 8 a.m., and that from Cambridge, say, half an hour later, while there would be sufficient time to bring cattle from almost any place within the delta, and send them on by that mornings train, arriving at Remuera with sufficient daylight all through the year to enable them to be driven direct to the paddocks. We are of the opinion that the majority of travellers from Waikato to Aucklaud, generally spend at least two nights in the town in any case, and the short time allowed for business (before 12 a.m.) under the present arangement does not compensate for the late arrival of trains, coaches travelling after dark, and mails not delivered in ordinary hours. — I have, &c, Edward G. McMixx, Chairman Pir ngia District Board. A. Y. McDonald, Ksq., General Manager Auckland Railways.
