The Waikato Times. "OMNE SOLUM FORTI PATRIA." SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 1873.

It was a happy thought of those who called the meeting last Saturday at Te Awumutu; and every Settler in the Waikuto has reason to congratulate I imself Unit there is every probabili»y of our now having one Agricult.ural Show for the Wuikato The fact of there being now a possibility of a Wai kato Show is a small matter compare 1 with the fact that unity in one matter is likely to lead to unity in all affecting the district. The resolution " That the two associations agree to hold a show on alternate'yeara, when and where they like, and that each agiee to give all possible assistance to the' other," was no doubt put f.uwardas a feeler ; there was an evident desire on the part of tho pro,ios r and seconder to discover how far the component parts of each party were prepared to forego their prejudices in order that ti.e general interests of the district might be forwarded. To the creilit of those present he it recorded, all were found ready to unite. The favorable reception of the original resolution gave confidence to what may be terme 1 the advanced party to bring forward the amendment — " 'Jhat the two associations unite to form a new association for the purpose of holding one show in a central place." Tho amendmeut was carried, and we feel confiJent that there is not a thinking settler in the district, had he been prosent, who would not have voted for it. We are aware i hat there is a differenae of opinion between the two associations as to the time of year at which the show should be held.; surely this difficulty can be easily oveicome if those whose duty it will be to meet it, enter upon its consideration with a desire to do that which shall be jusfc to all. We have so often pointed out, that it is altno.t superfluous to do so again, "that the interests of e\ei'y settler in the district are nearly, if not quite> identic.il." The townships of the district, and tho.-e who are living in them, are of comparatively little importance ; their very existence depends upon the prosperity of tho agriou'turalist and the graz.er, Unfortunately those ou whom the proiperity of the district mainly hangs, fiora boing isolated, have not uot a political or soicul entity, and as regards the holding of an agricultural show, sttler^' minds are prejudiced in favor of the particular townsnip from which they receive their letters and draw their supplies. Settlers on land should understand that the inhabitants of the townships are their dependents ; and we would ask why should they forego their own interests for the sake of putting a few pence into the pockets of tho men who are living upon them ? There has been, and exists, too much of this feeling, but we trust that its days are u umbered.

Tho arrival of the Claude Hamilton at the Buff with the latest English and Australian neWB has compelled us to hold over till next issue some m itters of local and colonial in tot eat ; alio our leading article. We nmind ratepayers that rates due to the Kirikiriroa, Hamilton, and Newcastle District Hoards, also the Hamilton East and West DiHtriet Hoards, ure payable to-day at the uflue of the Waikato Highway .Board's Agency, Hamilton. Alegars Svvanson, Boy lan. Diguan, Goldie, and Prime, haie been elected for Lity West; Air Lloyd, forKaipara. No other tender* b»ving refoieuce to this diatiiut are advertibed as being accepted. It is proposed to hold the following religious services in the Waikato tomorrow :— Church of lu^land- Alexandra, lla.ni; CambuUge, 11 a.m.; Hamilton, 6 30 p.m.; Ngaruawabia, 11am.; Te Awamutu, 3 p.m. (Jailiohc— Ngaruawahia, 11 a.m ; Hamilton 6.30 p.m. Presi.yteriau— Cam-bridge,' 1 1 a. m. ; JN gai ua wahi , 7p. m. W esley an Methodist— Pukerimu, 2,30 p.m ; Hamilton, 6.30 p. m. Among the latest inanufactoiies introduced into Dunedin, My* the Guardian, is oue which we have great plt-asuie in welcoming, and which, although at present on a small scale, will, we are quite sure, lapidly expend, and mtet with universal approbation and suppoit. Mi- James Eknwick aud Son have uommencud the manufacture of woollen goods of various desciiptions, including socks, stocking*, drawers, ihirts, <tc. V\ c uudeistaud tb^t the Messrs Km wick were for some time employed at the Mosgiel Factory, and that some months ago they senc home for two stocking frames, in o der to btart business in Dunedin. These a« i ived by the Otago a w eek or two sime, and aie now in full working order, and turniug out woollen goods— principally stockings and diawers— with considerable rai iaity. Other trames aro on their way out, and we have uo doubt that in a \eiy short time a manufactory of consideiable dimensions will be established in our midst, and uddiug to the weakh of the country.
