Thirty of one .side fired into the sheep, killing six, Captain Porter has gone to try and settle the dispute. Dunediu, Monday. A draft on Norton and Co., of JN'ew York, who advertise their watches in most of the newspapers in the colony, has been returned endorsed, "No one can be found to honour the draft. Firm broken up. The General Government oilercd the Flax Association £200 towards the exhibits of ilax machinery provided the exhibits of produce for the Vienna Exhibition were excluded, but the Association decMned the terms as unworkable. An inlluensial meeting was held at, the Superintendent's ofttce to-day, when a committee was appointed to make arrangements for an exhibition of colonial produce in Canterbury, with the view of selecting the best samples to send to Vienna. Great interest in felt in the result of the election. PARLIAMENTARY NEWS. !■ Wellington, Tuesday. The Financial Statement, has been postponed until Friday evening, owing to the inability to have the tables'printed earlier. The Public Works Statement •will bo made next week, Tkc Stamp Duties Act passed through committee. An amendment moved by Mr Reynolds to include water compeniea in the exemption schedule was lost bv 30 to 20.
