Grhat Vjknna Cotri* at Double Dummy.—We introduce to our readers thin celebrat :d game, and by wiey of preface it will be well to state it in taken from Ualdwitt's " Laws of short whist." Large bets were made against the accomplishment of the fact, which was, however, performed ; and it became evident that if hands 1 and 3 are rightly played, hands 2 and 4 are utterly helpless, and in spite of three guarded suits, must lose all 13 tricks. Clubs are trumps; No. 1 leads, and makes all thirteen tricks. The four hands arc shewn below : — First llakd.—Clubs: Tierce-major and one small card. Hearts: One small card. Spade*: Ace and Queen. Diamonds : Ace, Queen, and four small cards. Skcond Hand.—Clubs-. Three small cards. Ffrarts: Ten, nine, and three sma ll cards. Spades: King and one small card. Diamonds : Knave, ten, and one small card. TiintD Hand.—(.nibs : Three funall cards, hearts-. Quart,-major and one small card. Spades-. Knave, ten, and one small card. Diamtr Is : Two small curds.
