NEWS FROM THE SOUTH.
A-tender "for the erection of a new theatre at Wellington has been accepted. The Provincial Government are making arrangements to establish a quarantine station. A man named Roe.has been found dead in the Waitangi river, Hawke's Bay. . There were marks of violeßce on the body. The " Olago Daily Times" says that at no time has the feeling in favor of separation from the North Island been so strong. A public meeting- has been held in Wellington at which resolutions were passed calling upon the Government to put all vessels arriving from Auckland in quarantine for 14
days. A deputation waited upan Mr; Gisborne who said that there was no law'to'enable the Government to comply. If Auckland was declared an infected port they muifc declare Wellington also. It would be absurd to declare Auckland infected because, a few more cases had occurred there. Drs. Johnston and Grace have resigned in consequence of the Government not hariug adopted the recommendations of the Board.
