KIHIKIHI.
[Prom our owx Correspondent] I cannot send you any news- of importance. Every one here i» intent on pursuing their respective avocations- "with. an anxious hope of ameliorating
their condition iu life—an emulation worthy of praise and imitation. If tho settlers continue to reclaim the fern wilds with their woutcd pertinacity this pj ace will ere long be styled the " Aubuim" of the Waikato p'ain The want of suitable school accommodation has been a matter of serious request hero, but the settlers alive to their own interests, and in eonjuntion with the assistance of the Central Board of Education, are about to do the needful. Our school is conducted by a lady teacher whose abilities and system, of "making tlia young idea to shout" is admirably displayed in the otSi.-iency of her pupils. The settlers have reason to congratulate themselves on her valuable service*. Tho surrounding settlers have been considerably disappointed that the concert proposed some time since to be held at To Awamutu for the benefit of the Catholic Church here has not come off. I have not been able to ascertain the wherefore. Humour says the event will bring a bumpor house. I have heard 011 reliable authority that tho lve\. W. Hoyne baa made Cambridge his temporary headquarters. Iu removing from Hangiawhia he has left one of the loveliest spots in the district.. I believe that in consideration of his bad health the I exchange was necessary., ! Te Awamutu has put on a spurt and bids tair to ' become the business depot of a rich and populous '■ locality Its position is commanding and naturally | adapted for that purposo. It will rest solely on the abilities of our new enterpriser to unsure its I future greatness. Attention,, civility, lind punctu- | ality will win the vaco. Already then) are two I hotels,, two blacksmiths, boot and shoemakor, and I for the indispensables. of life there is a store bakery, and butchery. The place is also adorned with one of the handsomest churches m the district, and ore long 1 believe the Rev. Mr. Brady will reside there. This is something to commence with. The 24th will be celebrated here with a grand ball. Great expectations are afloat 011 the matter.
