Correspondence.
(To the Editor of the Waikato Times.)
Sir,—I wish to call the attention of the settlers of this district to the fact that His Excellency the Governor and the Hon. the Defence Minister will shortly pay us a visit. Would not this be a good opportunity for a deputation to wait on the Defence Minister with reference to the large tract of land which has been withheld from the public for Native purposes for the past six years. Portions of this land have frequently been offered to rebel Natives with a view of inducing them to come in and settle but these offers were always refused. As this has been a great drawback to the district, I believe if the case were properly represented to the Defence Minister he would consider the matter favourably. I would suggest that a public meeting be called at once to discuss the matter and appoint a committee to carry out this object.—l am, &c., Vulcan. Ngaruawahia, 1st May, 1872.
