SOCIAL EVENINGS

A social was tendered to Mr J. Frew by the Aparima R.S.A. Bowling Club and the local R.S.A.. Mr Frew is leaving the district, and the best wishes of those, present, were extended to him and his wile and family. Mr F. L. Girvan was chairman, and Vr H. E. Philp on behalf of the Bowling Club presented the guest with a suitcase. On behalf of the R.S.A. Mr J. Stirling asked Mr Frew to accept a .jeiiVs fitted case as; a token of appreciation and expressed sentiments which were also endorsed by those present.

A farewell social was recently held in More's Hall in honour of Miss Mavis Frew, who is leaving Riverton to reside in Dunedin. The evening was spent in dancing. On Monday evening the friends ci Mr A. Haslemore gathered to bid hon farewell. An enjoyable evening was spent in singing and competitions. After supper Mr A. Black, on behalf of those present, presented Allister with a shaving set and brushes. AUisto.* suitably replied. Everyone then joined in singing "For he's a jolly good fellow." The evening was brought to. a close with the singing of Auld Lang Syne. Miss C M. Hancock was the hostess. Those present were: Misses I. MacDougall, A. Hutchinson, D. Oag, Messrs A. Black, A. MeFadg'i, M. Kimble, P. Eccleton, J. Dawson and W. De Clifford. On Monday afternoon the lady bowlers of Riverton met at Mrs: D. F. MacDougall's residence in honour of Mrs J Frew, who is lea.ving Riverton. The afternoon was speait in music and competitions!. After a delicious afternoon tea Mrs MacDougall presented Mrs Frew with a handsome- painted vase, and also made a small gift jp her daughter, Mavis. Thej winners of the competitions were Mesdames E. Spencer and B. 3. Patrick.
