RIVERTON RACING CLUB

A SUCCESSFUL MEETING.

In the opinion of many northern visitors who were present at the Riverton Racing Club’s annual fixture it is the most popular and successful meeting held in the South Island. The weather conditions were ideal for the meeting and the track was in splendid order. It was a very happy experience for the-Club to have three fine racing days and it may be remarked that the record has seldom been equalled since racing was first held in Riverton over fifty years ago. Under the favourable circumstances detailed it v T as not surprising to learn that the figures for the attendance showed a large increase. The revenue from this source for the meeting amounted to £2177 11s 6d, as compared with £1640 19s for the previous year—an increase of £536 12s 6d. The totalisator investments also showed a substantial increase, the sum of £39,500 10s being put through the machine as against £37,782 10s last year—an increase of £l7lß. These returns are indeed very satisfactory in these days of falling revenues for Racing Clubs. The management was carried out in an exemplary manner, and the president (Mr D.' M. Tweedie), ' secretary (Mr G. B. Banks) and honorary workers are to be congratulated on their success. Following were the results :
