RIVERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL
The fortnightly meeting held on _ Monday, was attended by the DeputyMayor (Mr Patrick), and Crs. A. -tUWillett, G. C Kerse, J. A. Martin, 11. C. Johnstone and Miss Hunt. IX C. Robertson was granted permission to build a motor shed at the rear of his shop. Jas Prentice was granted permission to burn rubbish.
Mr J. C Thomson 31. P., forwarded letter from the Postmaster General in reference to repairs to Post Oiace clock, and stated that the matter would be looked into. The question of a revaluation of the Borough would be made to the Department. Right Hon. W. Massey also notified the member for the district that he was looking carefully into the question ot the bridge, and would give a reply shortly. The Secretary of the Riverton Brass Band wrote asking for the co-operation and assistance of the Borough in raising funds for a new set of instruments, Councillors generally were in favour ot asisting, and it was resolved that the Council give £2 2/- towards the Juno. The Southland League notified the Council that the next quarterly meeting of the League would be held at Wyndham.—Received. Southland Electric Power Board wrote in regard to payment of Borough installation. —Received. The Minister of Internal Affairs forwarded a copy of the proposed Motor] Vehicles Bill.—Received. The Public Works Department torwarded authority for expenditure oi £75 for widening the bay road.—liesolved that the Works Committee call tenders for the work.
A deputation consisting of Messrs 'Church,-Boniface and Prentice waited on the Council, objecting to an extension of the Sanitary service at th© top end of the North Ward. Applications were received from t-» six hotelkeepers, More and Sons, and C. A. Trow to license their eating houses. The hotelkeepers considered they should not cm"e under the provisions of eating houses as they already paid a license of £4o.—Resolved that all applications with the exception of Trows be granted, the Health Department objecting pending certain repairs being.undertaken to thee© premises.
Ten applicatons were received for the position of surfaceman, and that ot 6. Dixon, a former employee of the Council was .accepted. For the combined dutieß of Poundkeeper, dog-tax. collector, and Inspector of Nuisances, six applications were received and that of Chas. Horsham was accepted. Chas. Horsham's was th» only tender received for sexton, and He was appointed. Three tenders were received fcr citing and that of F. A. Webb was aecopted. _____________
