Some weeks ago a public meeting was held in the school 7 room in connection with a memorial to> be erected to the boys who lost their lives in the late war, and all others who left the district to serve their King and country. A strong committee of ladies and gentlemen was formed 1 , viz., Mr J. Ross (Chairman), Mrs Ericson and Mr J. F. Chalmers (joint secretaries), and Mrs 11. Anderson (treasurer). •It is the intention of the Committee to hold a social and. sale of work later on. They have already some £l4 in hand, and it is to be hqpedi that before, the year is half traversed that the amount amied at will be reached. / The Rev. Mr Lawry, of Auckland, occupied pulpit here on Sunday afternoon,\ when a very large congregation turned out to hear him. Mr Lawry preached a most eloquent. sermon, which was' greatly appreciated by both old and young. The school has again resumed after
a six week's holiday, and the attendance is quite up to- the average. The crops here are looking very well, and harvesting, will soon be in full swing, when some*" big yields wilt be* forthcoming. -
