There was fun at n vaudeville cotinpetition at Auckland! a few; days ago. But tile climax of tlie whole evening was reached when a young man started to sing a (sentimental isony dealing with a .churchyard. He had only completed a few lines when several turnips came bounding from the gallery, following smartly by a head of celery and: throe or four / -cabbages. He walked off the stage, and!, reappearing with a large flour sack, began to gather up the vegetables, otsll singing about the churchyard. This fairly brought down the house and the air was root >.v shouts of laughter,- while a hurtling mass of vegetables and fruit made things very lively for people in the froui utallis, as well as for the performer * and pinniste. Not- one whit disturbed, this intrepid young man finished his song, and then smilingly announced that he would he glad of a roarst of beef to finish u- tlie dinner. His fine, sport--iag spirit plea-ed the audience vastly, and he M-as acclaimed an easy ■ winner when it cauna tQ a decision..
