fjPjp fortnightly meeting, held ’ast evqpjlff’g, was attended by his Worship tlie. Mayor (Dr. Trotter) and Councillor Jas. Hymers, A'. F. Stock, E. Dennis, C. E. Johnstone, E. B. Patrick and Miss Hunt.

A. Reader asked permission to erect a pew wharf on foreshore, South K)vert°n. —Left to Harbour Committee.

R. A. 8011, Secretary of Regatta C|ub, asked the Council to regulate the ruotcr traffic on Boxing Day.— Decided to request Police Department to provide extra constables on that day. A petition was received from thirteen residents of North Ward, asjcing the Council to take steps to clean out the open drain in North Riverton.—Referred . to Works Committee to report on.

A. E. Willett, Secretary, Fallen Sojdiers’ Memorial Committee, wrote thanking the Council for granting pepmjssion to mse site on Pilot reserve for the proposed memorial.—Received.

Tlie Secretary of the Athenaeum Committee, wrote thanking the Council for the gift of a captured German machine gun.—Received. Clerk, Wallace County Council, wrote stating that the County Chairman and Crs. Linseott and Rodger and tho Engineer had been appointed to confer with the Riverton Borough Council in regard to the Aparinm bridge.—Decided to meet on 17th inst., Councillors as a whole to be present. Auckland Borough Council wrote asking the co-operation of the Council in having a resolution brought before Parliament objecting to the fees trom licensed motor vehicles being paid to the consolidated fund. The fees should be paid to the local bodies interested. The proposal was an injustice to the local bodies. —Decided to support resolution. Secretary, Southland League, wrote in regard to the proposal Highways Bill. ~A meeting to consider same was hold in Invercargill on 21st October. —Koceived.

The Property Committee reported as follows; That- E. M. Turner be granted the use of the Corporation cottage free of cost during the time lie is in the employ of the Council, P rc * viding he effected repairs, the Committee to have the right of inspecting the cottage.—Report adopted. The Committee appointed to confer with the Hydro-Electric Power Board reported ais follows: The Power Board, whilst desirous of [assisting local authorities in every possible way could not see its way to go bn immediately with the reticulation of the Riverton borough, but preferred to carry out thus portion of the work along with the Monowai supply scheme. If, however, the Borough decided to make arrangements with the Invercargill Council for the supply of current and proceeded with the reticulation on ita own account the Board would erect the pole line between Invercargill and Riverton on condition that the Borough paid! the expenses iu connection with maintenance and upkeep until such time as tho general plans were under way.--During the deliberation it was pointed out that the Board wished to treat all ln.al bodies alike. The current would be available throughout the whole district within two years.— After some discussion, it was resolved to make further representations to the Board asking it to‘reconsider its decision and erect the line through the Borough. * Chas. Horsham, Inspector, drew attention to 1 the bad state of the pound. It was hardly safe to keep stock in. He would like the Council' to procure a red light from tho Railway : Department to stop those road hogs who ride through the streets without lights alter dark.—A discussion took place in regard, to renovating the pound, and it was loft to the Property Committee to report on. The Surfaceman reported that tho cesspits had been cleared out during the month. Gravel had been carted from Mr Molloy’s. This gravel was the next best to small metal, but wilh cost the Council Gd per yard royalty. The Council should get a few loads of Ringway gravel for placing on the streets. The Corporation ground should 6e fenced and secured ivith a gate and lock. The privies in South Riverton and tho bridge railing; required repairs.—Repprt adopted!. Decided to havo inquiries made foT supply of riietal from Gireenhills quarry and to erect fences around the Corporation grounds, E. B. Patrick made application for use of Recreation ground for the Cricket Club.—Left to- Property Committee.

It was resolved to draw the attention of the billiard room proprietor that billiards must not be played on Christmas Day or on Sundays. In reply to a question from Cr. Stock, the Clerk stated that the HorougK balancc-„sheot had' not yet been returnod from Wellington. Cr. Stock reported that an offer had been made whereby the ashes would be removed from shops and residences in North Riverton. He thought the idea was a good one, and should receive the hearty support of the Council. —Agreed to. Cr. Hunt, in asking if the Sanitary Committee were attending to the regulation pans, gave notice of motion not less than ton new pans be procured, the Clerk to be paid for these when put in use. On the motion of Cr. Hunt, seconded by Cr. Stock, it was resolved to grant E. M. Turner permission to remove the tank from the power shed to the residence occupied by hinr. A dipcinision took place in regard to removal of pipes from the Council yard, and the matter was eventually referred' to the Property Committee to report on.

In reply to a question on cemetery matters, the Clerk stated that this account was kept separate from the other Borough accounts-.'

obtain a plan and estimate for erecting a shed at the cemetery. In accordance with notice of motion, Cr. Hunt moved that a six hundred gallon tank be procured for the cottage occupied by C. Horsham. —Seconded by Cr. Stoqk and carried. Cr. Hymers moved that 25 planks be procured for the bridge.—Seconded' by Cr. Dennis, and' carried. A notice of motion by Or. Johnstone re the appointment of the Buiv faceman was dealt with in committee.

Accounts amounting to £ll9 9s 7d were passed for payment.
