WORLD’S YIELD OF OIL.

Some interesting facts concerning the motor fuel situation .are provided by an eminent English authority on tlie subject. In 1919 the production of motor cars alone in America was about 1,900,000, and an estimate of the average consumption was 400 gallons per annum per vehicle, while if aeroplanes and other uses were included, the total number of vehicles or users of oil would be increased! to 2.500.000 for 1919, which would represent 1,000,000,000 gallons of oil or 3.500.000 tons. The late Professor Vivian Lewes had estimated that every ton of crud'e oil gave 12 per cent., it meant that, in order to l produce 3,500.000 tons* of petto! 17,500,000 tons of crude oil was required in America alone. In 1912 the total yield of the world was 50,000,000 tons in seven 1 years ; ■ but at the same time the consumption was increasing at the rate of 15,000,000 tons per annum.
