SOCIAL AT THORNBURY.

A social to welcome home Priv. Dysaski, of the main Expeditionary Force, was held in the Public Hall, Thornbury, on Wednesday' evening, when, there was a large attendance. Mr. George Carmichael presided, and, in a suitable speech, extended a hearty welcome to the soldier, and voiced the good wishes of the people of th district for his speedy recovery to his wonted health. Ho had braved many dangers and endured many hardships doing ‘his little bit’ for / King and country,- and all were gladX to have the opportunity of showing their appreciation. Mr. Carmichael said he would like to supply an omission he had inadvertently made at the last social. On that occasion he gave a list of names of Thornbury residents who had volunteered for the (front, but he had left out the following:—Th© two sons of Mr. William Templeton, who had been born and brought up in the locality, and who were now on active service and Priv W. Thomson.—(Applause.) He then asked the company to join in singing God Save the King, alter which three cheers were given for the guest of the evening. Appropriate speeches were given by the Rev Mr. PaJrata and * Mr. J. O. Thomson, M.P., and the ing “For He’s a Jolly Good Fello% ' concluded the welcoming. Dancing was then indulged in to excellent music supplied by Miss Lovett (piano), Foster and Weir (Violins) and Suitor* (flute). A capital repast, provided by the ladies, was done full justice to at a convenient interval. An apology for unavoidable absence was read from Mr. F. O. Mills. During the evening, which was a most enjoyable one, several songs were contributed, and loudly applauded. Votes of thanks to the speakers, and all who had in any way contributed to the success of the gathering n'ew moved by the chairman and; carried with applause.
