ENTERTAINMENTS.

A first-class limelight entertainment, in aid of the Hi vert on Presbyterian Church Sunday school library fund, was giren in the Victoria Hall on Wednesday night, the building being crowded with an appreciative audience The entertainment was promoted by the iter R MoCully, the pastor of the ohurcb, and he is deserving of great praise for bringing it to a successful issue. The lantern waa skilfully worked by Mr MoCully, the views, comprising scenes in Palestine, Italy, Switzerland and New Zealand, being shown with a delightful olcarnee*, which drew forth the admiration of the audience, while the comic pictures, which were numerous, elicited much laughter. At intervals song! were given. Miss Pattison sang " The Toilers," and she charmed her auditors with her excellent vocalisation of this difSoule song, for which she was anthuaiasticaly applauded. A aeries of colored pictures illustrating" The Little Hero," was thrown on the screen, ihe descriptive song being sung by Mr H E Fhilp, and he sang it in splendid style, receiving around «>f well-metited applause. Mr J C Thomson nave " The Village Blacksmith," rour being shown meanwhile. " The Heathen Chinee " series provoked mnch laughter, Bret Harte's immortal effusion being read by Mr D MoKen7.ie, of Wild Bush. The entertainment was '•pened by Mr A Sanaster playing a Pianoforte solo, in whioh he displayed admirable execution and fine appreciation of the musio Miss Bell played the accompaniments to the songs in her usual careful and finished manner, and reeeiTed a special vole of thanfcs for the loan of her instrument. Knoek, but the carrying out of it to a successful issue ib ous to the indefatigable efforts of Miss Mollwrkk, assisted by her juvenile performers and otnnrs.
