Sydney. Owing to a strike of wheelers the Burwood colliery is closed. Melbourne. A verdict of manslaughter has been returned against three men named Shields, Howes, and Kneele in connection with the death of a man named McKay. The evidence at an inquest showed that he was stabbed in a drunken melee amongst a gang of larrikins of which the accused are members. A plunge into the Yarra has been the means aeopted by five women duringthe past ten days to get rid of their earthly existence. Two were foiled, and others succeeded. In two cases girls threw themselves from a height of 50 feet from bridges. Adelaide. The employes in Martin and Go’s foundry, Uawler, have struck in support of a demand made by the engineers for an increase in wages to 10s a day. Perth, A Japanese, after stabbing a Manilla man at Broome, escaped into the mangroves, accompanied by his wife. Next day the woman’s body was found and the man was arrested. Great excitement has been caused at Esperauceßay by the discovery of opal fields at Norseman. Beautiful slabs have been brought in. They a, glossy appearance, "varying from white to blue end light* green. The whole surface is most beautifully marhed, and the stones are of various degrees of brilliancy.
