Fridat, 22nd Mauch, 1889. (Before H. McCullocb, Esq., R.M.) BREACH OF THE GAMES ACT. P. W. Buchanan was charged on the information of R. H. Brodrick, Seoretary of the Acclimatisation Society, with shooting akaka at Round Hill on Sunday, the 17th inat., oontrary to the Protection of Animals Act. Mr Bnoh nan plead ;d guilty. Mr Finn, who appeared for the Acclimatisation Society, said it was a very grave offence, but as it was the first oaso of the kind he would ask for the imposition of the lowest penalty—say one shilling. Mr Bnohar an ptuted that he bad been prospect ing for several months at Bound Hill; he got very little gold and was unable to purchase meat. Kakas were very numerous and it was a case of necessity to shoot them for food. The Magistrate said the law would have to be obeyed. In the present case he would impose a penalty of Is, without costs. In future he would, however, impose a substantial penalty for offences of the kind. CIVIL CASES. T. Devonshire t. Chas. McGregor.—Claim, £3O 4s 3d for goods, and cash lent. Plaintiff put in letter from defendant acknowledging the debt. Judgment for plaintiff with costs £2 17s. t W. Broad *. Chas. Bates.—Claim, £2 ss.
