THE BOGUS TELEGRAM.

WELLINGTON, April 23. Some time ago wo exposed the dishonest system of telegraphic piracy carried on by the Press Association in stealing our special London cable messages immediately after their publication iby the Australian paper which is our partner in obtaining them, and then publishing them" in New Zealand da “from their own London correspondent.” As they persisted in the piracy and refused to admit their guilt a trap was laid for these pirates, into whichtheyhave fallen helplessly. Never was there such a clear case of robbers being caught in their own trap. The * Chronicle,’ after being mulcted in damages and costs, although these were compassionately forgiven them, for a gross libel on this journal by falsely accusing us of fabricating bogus telegrams, now stands self-convicted of publishing not only a “ bogus ” and fabricated “ telegram,” but a stolen one. Withi regard to the Press Association itself, as. several of the directors are in Wellington, just now we hope that this painfull exposure will induce them to give immediate instructions for the discontinuance.of these contemptible acts of piracy,, which have led the Association intoso degrading a position. The trap “bogus telegram having been published to-day by the papers belonging t® the Association in all parts of the Colony, in some cases with elaborate editorial comments, helps to make the thing even more ludicrous and mortifying to the deluded pirates, who so self-com-placently believed that this time they had “ done it rather ” —and so they have indeed. —* Evening Post.’
