HATUMA BRANCH I THE MONTHLY MEETING j The August meeting of the Hatuma Women’s Institute was held on Friday . afternoon last, Miss Allan presiding | over an attendance of 42 members. The meeting opened with the Insti- | tute ode and aspirations, after which ■ routine business was dealt with. j An invitation was received from the Onga Onga Institute to attend an evening on September 12. It was decided to hold the annual institute dance on September 25. Mrs Lawther, who as delegate, attended the Dominion Conference in Auckland gave a very descriptive account of the -whole meeting and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs P. A. Riddle, who recently returned from a visit to Japan, gave a most delightful talk on her experiences, all present spending an instinctive half-hour listening to the speaker. On display during the afternoon were many old and interesting art'des consisting of photographs, shawls, china, etc., many of which were very valuable and dated back 160 years.

The competition, for the day “A dressed fowl’’ was won by Mrs Howard; the second competition, ‘'Prettiest guest towel,” Miss J. Allan first, Mrs Sim second, and Miss 'Simmons third.

The gardening circle brought in a fine lot of flowers, which were sent to the Sanatorium. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames C. R. Edgecombe, Dickson, W. Hopkinson and Miss Edgecombe.
