BOROUGH SEALING
End of Ruatamwha Street PETITION TO THE COUNCIL FAVOURABLE CONSIDERATION “We desire to bring before the notice of your Council the need for the sealing of that portion of Ruataniwha Street extending from the Post Office to the junction with St. Joseph Street,” said a petition received by the Borough Council last evening from the following: B. J. McCormick, Sowry and Dowrick, Ltd., John Winlove and Sons, J. W. Harrison, the Waipukurau Press Co., Ltd., N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., and A. E. Jull.
“Apart from the dust nuisance, which besides being a considerable annoyance involves some financial loss to the business people in the area, the section of street referred to is serviceable to a large, number of ratepayers. This incomplete portion of the main street compares very unfavourably with the large stretches in the Borough already permanently sealed. It would appear that the present affords a good opportunity for dealing with , the matter -as the Waipukurau County is now carrying out such w’ork. Cr. J. McCarthy said that he thought the request was a legitimate one. Councillors generally agreed that the work should be done. On the suggestion of the Mayor, it was decided to defer the matter till next meeting, in order to obtain from the contractors at present engaged on Waipukurau County sealing work a price for the job.
