Fire Prevention and Clean Up
The resTdents of the borough are notified that fire prevention week and a special clean-up period will commence to-morow, when rubbish is to be removed by the Council’s lorries, Thursday and Friday, also on Tuesday of next week. Wellington Artillery Band. The Wellington Artillery Band is to stage a concert in the Municipal Theatre, Waipukurau, on Sunday next, at 8.15 p.m. A very fine programme has been arranged, and it is anticipated that there will be a large attedance. % Health Camp for Hawke’s Bay It is hoped by Dr J. Allan Berry that as the result of representations.to be made by a special committee of the Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board, the Departments of Health and Education will be able to offer valuable suggestions “which may lead to the establishment of a children’s health camp in H.B. .preferably by the sea. Dr Berry raised the question at the board meeting yesterday, and pointed out- the advantages of having under-nourished and crippled children from Hawke’s Bay treated in this province. The board unanimously adopted his suggestion, and resolved to have the secretary write to the departments mentioned for information. South Auckland Bowlers Six rinks from: the party of 70 bowlers and ladies of the South Auckland Bowling Centre, at present on tour, visited Waipukurau this afternoon when they were entertained on the local green. The Mayor (Mr I. W. N. Mackie) welcomed the visitors and expresed the hope that they would have an enjoyable afternoon. He mentioned with regret that owing to the fact that Tuesday was Waipukurau’s busy day, many of the local players had been unable to attend. The president (Mr J. Butler) also extended a weleonie on behalf of the club. Mr Barnett, president of the South Auckland Centre, responded on behalf of the touring players.
