PIGEON FLYING

WAIPUKURAU CLUB TWO RACES FLOWN The Waipukurau Homing Pigeon Club flew a flock race for senior members from Otaki, an air line distance of 90 miles to the winner’s loft. Eleven fanciers penned birds for this race and the stationmaster reported liberating the flyers, 51 in number, at 10.45 a.m., weather fine, wind nil, and from reports received climatic conditions were favourable throughout. At 1.4 p.m., 2 hours 19 minutes after liberation, Mr F. Fryer homed Pegaway and secured first place. Results: — Mr F. Fryer’s Pegaway, 1125 yards per minute 1 Mr T. Spencer’s Bon Speck, 1123 yards per minute 2 Mr J. Skidmore’s 8.C.C.38, Tll9 yards per minute 3 Next in order came the entries of F. J. Fraser, R. E. Gardener, D. Stowe, R. C. Shand, C. A. Stowe, Guy Bros., B. Hislop and C. Wood.

PALMERSTON INTERVAL The senior members of the Waipukurau Homing Pigeon. Club also flew r an interval race from Palmerston, an air line distance of 55 miles. Twelve fanciers entered for this race, birds to be liberated at 10 minute intervals by Mr P. Wills, of the Palmerston North Club. ' Mr Wills reported that the birds were liberated in dull weather, light rain falling, and owing to this, the birds could not their bearings so easily, but still put up a good performance, the winning bird, Mr H. M. Denne’s Black Magic, doing the journey in 1 hour 54 minutes. Results: — Mr H. M. Denne’s Black Magic, 1 hour 54 minutes Mr C. A. Stowe’s Crusader, 2 hours 5 minutes Mr T. Spencer’s Black Joe, 2 hours 22 minutes 3 Next in order came the entries of F. J. Fraser. L. Chapman, D. Stowe, Guy Bros., C. Wood and R. E. Gardener. Three members failed to hand in the'r clocks.
