ACROSS THE TASMAN

Further Flight To-day ULM TO CAREY AIR MAIL ONLY AN EXPERIMENT By Telegraph—Copyright—Press Assn SYDNEY, Last Night. Popular appreciation of the air mail leaving to-morrow for Now Zealand is testified by the fact that the New Zealand Government office, sold the whole issue of New Zealand stamps received for return-paid letters. The office opens specially early to-morrow for the sale of another lot of stamps which are arriving by the Monowai. Among the items being mailed is an autographed copy of the book “Hell’s Airport,” by the Aucklander, Errol Coote, addressed to Lord Blcdisloe. The Director of Postal Services, Mr H. P. Brown, stated to-day that it was not the Government’s intention to participate in regular air-mail services to New Zealand. Mr Elm’s flight to-mor-row was purely experimental. The Haith in Australia is due to leave Sydney for New Zealand this afternoon, arriving at New Plymouth about, 3 o’clock to-morrow morning. New Zealand Air Force machines will then take the mail for distribution to Auckland and Wellington and possibly Christchurch. The original consignment of New Zealand stamps forwarded to Australia totalled 9,000, and a further 20,000 were dispatched in response to a cabled request.
