Air F. A. G. Dunn is to return to-day from a brief visit to Wellington. - Mr A. D. Wallace, of Omakefe, is at /present paying a visit to Auckland. Miss Nita McHardy, of Aramoana, left on Thursday for Wellington en route to England for a holiday trip. Miss Laura Allhusen has returned to Otane after a visit to Miss Alison White, New Plymouth. Miss F. Pattison, Waipawa, is the guest of Mrs A. Hatrick, St. John’s Hill, Wanganui. The Governor-General has appointed Mr J. S. Jessep, to be East Coast Commissioner, under the Native Purposes Act, 1931. Mrs S. McGreevy, of Wellington, visited Waipawa during Easter and renewed many old friendships. She returned to her home on Thursday. The Waipukurau County Council this morning passed a resolution of sympathy with the wife and relatives of the late Mr W. R. Waldin. Mr and Mrs L. R. Grant, who, with their family, have been-‘spending a holiday in Auckland, are returning to their home on Monday. Miss A. M. McLay; adult organiser for the W.C.T.U., is to pay. a visit to Waipukurau. and will deliver an address on Tuesday night. Mr Guy Natusch, ’ a son of Mr Tilyard Natusch, well known in Waipulturau, and a former Wellington journalist, has been ' appointed, editor of the Launceston ‘'Examiner." r He succeeds Mr S. Dryden, who has retired to a consultative position. An old identity of Waipawa, in the person of Mrs Caroline Tester, sister of the late Mr C. H. Nash, who was in business there for many years, passed away in the Palmerston North Hospital last Sunday, in her 83rd year.

The office of president of the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union changed hands at the annual general meeting last evening, Mr R. M. Hewitt, of Hastings, being elected in place of Mr A. W. S. Longley, of Porangahjtu. When he was elected Mr Hewitt said that he felt the honour of his election very much indeed, and he would do his best to uphold that honour and the dignity of the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union.

Easter Monday saw a very pretty wedding celebrated at St. Alban’s Church, Te Rehunga, when Phyllis Mary, second daughter of Mr and Mrs H. P. Fairbrother, of Kiritaki, was married to Colin Alexander, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Charles Stephens, of Palmerston North. The Rev. G. B. Stephenson officiated, and Mr H. H. Phillips’at the organ played the Wedding March and incidental music.

A wedding of much interest in Waipawa was solemnised at the Puketapu Anglican Church on Wednesday, when Winifred Mary, daughter of Canon and Mrs Cullwiek of Manurewa, Auckland,} was united in matrimony to James. Busby, son of the late Mr James Busby, of Tokomaru, and Mrs Busby, of Bury St. Edmonds, England. The. marriage ceremony was conducted by the Bishop of Waiapu, assisted by the Rev. *C. Hyde, vicar of Puketapu. Many guests from this district were present at the ceremony and at the reception which followed.

The death occurred in Christchurch, yesterday of Mr Walter Martin, aged 80, one of the early settlers of Canterbury. He arrived in New Zealand in. 1860 and was employed for many years in the Department of Justice until he , retired on account of ill-health. For seven years he was clerk of the District Court and Registrar of the High Court of Western Samoa. Since relinquishing those positions about 1925, he had lived in Sydney and Christchurch -r-Press Association.
