OTANE NOTES

OF GENERAL INTEREST (From Our Own Correspondent.) Word was received this week that Mr Rowan, ex-postmaster, had been taken very seriously ill. After leaving Otano Mr Rowan was transferred to the Otago district and quite recently to Pctone on promotion. Mr Rowan was very popular with the general public when in Otano. This week two long and fully laden excursion trains from Dannevirko passed through to Napier. Apparently Southern Hawke’s Bay is not feeling the depression as keenly as the'Central district! As the school opens again on February 1, the majority of the campers on the beach at Kairakau are arranging to come home. Mrs J. Anderton, who has been in Wellington, attending the “Berlei” annual school of instruction, returns homo to-day.
