Mrs A. Sugden and Miss Hansard, Feilding, are spending a fortnight with the former’s daughter, Mrs Alec Williams, St. Lawrence. Otane. Miss Gwenda McHardy, Waipawa, is the guest, of Mrs W. L. Irwin. Gisborne. At the sitting of the Waipukurau Court this morning, the Bench extended a welcome to Constable Sutton, expressing the hope that his stay in the Waipukurau district would bo a happy one. <f From what we know of his past record we arc sure that it. will be a. successful one,” said Mr G. E. Fowler. .T.P. It is generally anticipated in Parliamentary circles that the new Minister of Public, Works to succeed the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates will ho the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. C. E. Macmillan), who had charge of the department during the absence of Mr Coates at Ottawa. The death occurred at Dunedin yesterday morning, reports a Press Association message, of the Rev. A. M. Finlayson, of Maori Hill, in his 88th year. The late Mr Finlayson studied for the ministry of the Presbyterian Church and camo to New Zealand in 1875. Ho was inducted to the parish of Waikouaiti in 1876 and remained# there 40 years, when he retired from active work.
