HOCKEY ALL BLACKS

DRAW IN LAST MATCH RECORD OF WINS ALMOST SPOILT SYDNEY, Aug. 24. The New Zealand hockey team played their last match of the tour to-day against the New South Wales 1 eleven w'hich was greatly strengthened by the inclusion of three country cracks, and New Zealand was lucky to escape defeat and maintain its unbeaten record. Spiers and Moore saved them on many occasions. Turbitt did not play owing to an injured knee. The New South Wales defence included Todkill, Australia’s best back, who played a great game. The New Zealand forwards appeared stale after their long tour and lacked their customary combination. Munro suffered a badly cut nose, but continued to play. The scores at half-time were one all. There were brilliant rallies in the second half, but neither was able to add to the score, the final being a draw, one all. The scorers were: New Zealand, Welbourne; New South Wales, Hurrell.
