CHAMPIONSHIPS IN PROGRESS. HAWKE’S BAY SUFFERS DEFEAT. INVERCARGILL, Last Night A feature of to-day’s play at the New Zealand basketball tournament was the defeat of Auckland by Otago, who were much superior on the day’s play. Bright sunshine again prevailed throughout, and there was no wind. Results of to-day’s games are as follow:—— South Canterbury (19) beat Marlborough 17. Wellington (16) beat Southland (14) Otago (25)*beat Hawke’s Bay (7). Southland (21) beat South Canterbury (10). Otago (19) beat Auckland (12). Canterbury (23) beat Hawke’s Bay (11). Ashburton (22) beat Marlborough (15) Canterbury (23) beat Ashburton (10). Points for the New Zealand Cup are: Canterbury 6, Otago 6, Wellington 4, South Canterbury 2, Southland 2, Ashburton 2, Marlborough nil, Hawke’s Bay nil, Auckland nil.
