Communist sharpshooters at Duisburg raided the home of a prominent Fascist and fired a volley into his bedroom. The Fascist escaped, but his Wife was wounded. This is the first blood in the war between the Fascists and the Reds, Which threatens to rood the country in two, while the death sentences at Beutthen have arosed a wave of anger only comparable to that of Central Europe after the murder of the Austrian Archduke at Sarajevo.

WORKING-CLASS UNITE LONDON. August 16. One effect of the continued terrorism in Germany, which has opened everybody’s eyes to the true character of the Nazis, is the rapid advance of working-class unity everywhere, reports the Berlin correspondent of the "Manchester Guardian.” Socialists and Communists arc forming joint defence organisations. The leaders -.of the Socialist Party have informed Herr Bracht that they would authorise their followers to take immediate' measures of self-defence if the Nazi outrages did not cease. The Government has appealed to Herr Hitler to exercise a restraining influence. Even the police now admit that the Konigsbcrg outrages were committed by Nazis. The Government apparently has begun to realise that to condone terrorist violence is not a simple matter in a country with a highly developed civilisation, and a great Labour movement with political and revolutionary experience at least as groat as von Papon’s and von Schleicher’s.
