TAKAPAU LADIES’ TOURNAMENT OPENS TO-DAY The Takapau Golf Tournament opened this morning with a ladies’ day in one of the best spring days we have had this season. The links which have been receiving attention were never in better codition, and look the part with tho bright sunshine and the Ruahincs with their snow-clad tops in the background. There aro about forty entries for the ladies’ tournament with competitors from Palmerston North to Napier. Air W Lints of Wanganui, a visiting competitor for the men’s tournament, who has been a competitor on over half a century of golf links in New Zealand, states that the links are among the most sporty he has seen and No. 5 ‘ Sticks’ he declares ’ o be one of tho best holes in New Zealand. About 50 entries have been received for the men’s tournament, coming from Napier, Gisborne, Hasting-, Waipawa, Waipukurau, Orniondvtlie. Dannovirke. Pahiatua, Palmerston North, Wanganui and New Plymouth. HASTINGS TOURNAMENT AIRS TAR EHA THE CHAMPION The Hastings ladies’ golf championship and Longlands handicap were completed yesterday, the semi-finals being played in the morning and the finals in the afternoon. The championship was won by Airs Tareha and the Longlands handicap by Aliss Simpson. Senior and junior medal rounds and a Canadian foursome were also played yesterday. At the conclusion of the play, Airs C. J. Baker, president of the club, expressed her appreciation of the large entry and the presence of so many visitors. She then called on Airs G. Kelly to present the prizes. Before doing so, Airs Kelly, after congratulating the club on the success of the tournament, made some interesting comments on the L.G'.U. system of handicapping. At the conclusion of the prize giving Airs H. Smith, Waiohiki/ returned thanks on behalf of the visitors. Yesterday’s results were:— OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP Semi-Finals Airs Tareha beat Aliss Ormond 5 and 3. Aliss D. Thompson beat Aliss Badger, 6 and 4. Final Airs Tareha beat Aliss D. Thompson 2 up. LONGLANDS HANDICAP Semi-Finals Aliss Simpson heat Airs H. Smith, 3 and 2. Airs Toothill beat Airs Alciklc, .1 up at the 20th. Final Aliss Simpson beat Airs Toothill, 2 and 1.
