McKenzie, Wellington road, to hold a clearing sale of her household furniture and effects, comprising a lengthy list of articles. Scout Field Day The first and second' Waipukurau Scout Troops are holding a field-day to-morrow. The troops will assemble at St. Andrew’s Hall at 9 a.m., then march, to a suitable location, probably Mt. Herbert. Each Scout is required to carry provisions for two meals. Training in the various aspects of scouting including signalling, bridgebuilding, and tracking, will be given. Reveille Entertainment For some time past members of the Waipukurau and district Plunket Society have been considering’ ways and means of augmenting their funds and yesterday members of the committee met Mr W. Lints, when after a full discussion it was decided that he be asked to organise a reveille entertainment which will take place during the last week in September. Sacrifice of Manufacturers? “The manufacturers,” said Mr F. L. Hutchinson, a past-president of the "Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association, commenting on the Ottawa agreements. “are only too glad to see something done to help the primary producer, but it is a terrible thing that the manufacturers, and all that they stand for, should be sacrificed to that end. ’ ’ Dairying in Central Hawke’s Bay The Waipukurau factory of the Heretaunga Dairy Co. opened the 193233 season on Monday, the first churning of butter taking place yesterday. The opening date is a week earlier that for last year, but a slight comparative increase was revealed in the supply. It is anticipated that the supply of cream to the factory will be supplemented considerably this season as the result of the reported additions to herds and establishment of a number of new herds. Power Board Office Alterations The Central Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board has just had carried out certain interior alterations to its premises in Russell Street, affecting considerable improvement in the lay-out of the office. By the removal of a partition a spacious public office has been provided for the accommodation of the whole of the clerical staff, which formerly occupied two separate rooms. This will make the working conditions of the office far more convenient. The secretary-manager’s office is now situated conveniently in the front of the building, the former public office being utilised for this purpose. The work was carried out at a small outlay, very little new material being required. Wallingford Women’s Institute The monthly meeting was held on the 17th inst., Mrs J. D. Ormond presiding over a good attendance. Mrs C. Williams (Elsthorpe) gave a most interesting address on the Dominion conference and later also demonstrated the making of wool quilts. Everyone was most interested, thoroughly enjoying both the address and demonstration. The competition for meat pies resulted as follows:—Class A Electric Stove. — Mrs Beaver 1, Mrs R. P. Wilder 2, Miss A. Blair 3. Class B Kitchen Range.—Mrs Whitehead 1, Mrs J. McDonald 2, Mrs Jamieson 3. Mrs L. Wilson proposed a vote of thanks to Mrs Williams after which the meeting closed with singing the National Anthem. The hostesses were: Mesdames Gecnty, R. Stoddart, Wright, Jamieson and Miss Wood.
