A RATING PROBLEM

Question of Remission ON UNOCCUPIED PROPERTIES. APPEAL AGAINST A DECISION. (Per Press Association) AUCKLAND, This Day. The Auckland City Council and other local bodies have recently been acting on the opinion expressed by His Honour, Mr Justice Blair some months ago that owners of properties, other than dwellings, are not entitled to a rebate of half rates when the premises have been vacant for six months. A committee, representing property owners and the Real Estate Institute, has now been set up to have the matter rectified by taking a case to the Court of Appeal, and if unsuccessful, to endeavour to have the law amended. It is contended that the obvious intention was to give the benefit of the rate to all owners of rdflted pfoperty.
