Modern Monte Cristo

SIXTEEN CONVICTS ESCAPE LONG TUNNEL SCOOPED OUT Australian and N.Z. Press Association. WARSAW, November 20. By scooping a tunnel thirty yards long and over three feet high with their hands sixteen convicts escaped from Grudzinda prison in Pomerania in a manner reminiscent of the Count of Monte Cristo (the hero of Dumas’ famous novel). Their absence was unnoticed for several hours. Some of the fugitives raided a tailor’s shop, and secured civilian clothes, then stole a motor-car. None have been recaptured.
