PETITION FROM MARLBOROUGH

PRAYER FOR INVESTIGATION. Mr C. G. Tesch emaker, of Blenheim, who for some years, has been interesting himself in experiments which have as thil.r object the discovery of a parasite to destroy the blowfly of maggotfly, that menace to the welfare of sheep, has had a petition prepared and signed, praying the Government to send Mr David Miller, the Government Entomologist, to a European conference, which is to investigate this subject. Tho petition has been largely itgned by Marlborough sheep-owners, and ovdr 245,000 sheep are represented by the signatories. Tho Marlborough ’Sheep-Owners ’ Union is one. of the signatories, and at a meeting of the A. and P. Association, Mr Tcschemaker asked if the Assoq.ation would also sign the petition. Mr Tcschemaker explained that Mr Miller had worked very energetically in making experiments with paras tes on the. blowfly for the last four years, and the speaker had had the privilege of being associated with him in these investigations. Ho was firmly convinced that Mr Miller was the only suitable man to send to the conference, but it was feared that trie Government did not realise this The Association decided that the president should sign the petition on '.ts bdhalf

Mr Teschemaker will go. to Wellington shortly to place the petition before the. Minister of Agriculture*.
