FIRE TRAGEDY.
FATHER’S FIGHT FOB HIS BABY'S LIFE. VERDICT OF ACCIDENTAL DEATH. A father’s graphic story of his efforts to save the life of his baby was told when the inquest on the two vr®tims of the Stockwell fire tragedy was held. The fire in tho house in which were, eight people, wos evidently caused by Nicholas Alkcrs, aged 84, upsetting an d.;'l lamp, Alkers and Frederic* Poole, aged three, word killed. Reginald Poole, father of the. baby, who was rescued by firc'men in an unconscious condition, and had been for same time in hospital, said ho tried to get air for himself and the baby at thd window, but was driven back by smoko and flames. When his daughter Violet, aged who had jumped from a window 16 feet above the ground, called to h in throw the baby down, he had not the strength to answer her, and just shook his head; Hd then lost consciousness. “Accidental death” was tho jury,, verdict.
