OTANE NEWS.
The oratorio “ The Healing or Kaaman, ” produced by the Combined Choirs, under the conductorship of Mr. A. Bull, was staged in the Town Hall on Wednesday night ana was greatly appreciated by the audience which, owing to the bad weather, was not as large as was anticipated. Several o. the soloists were suffering from colds and were not heard at tiieir best, bur the choruses were very good, showing evidences of careful training. The soloists were Mrs. AV. A. Tod (soprano), Mrs R. Pilcher (mezzo soprano), Miss f. Pollard (contralto) and Messrs. Anderson (tenor) and J. Tod (bass). The accompanists ’were Mrs) Tod and Mrs. Pollard., and they were assisted by Mr. L. Anderson (violin) and Mr. A. Anderson (cello). Mr. Bull made a very efficient conductor and was mainly responsible for the success of the evening. i
The Rev.Mr, Burrad, of the Melancssian Mission, who is on a visit to Otane, conducted special services on Sunday, in aid of the Southern Cross Fund. The nett result was over £76 Is Id —To Ante £63, Otane £lO, Omakcre £1 and Sunday Schools £2. In addition to this a number of promised donations are still to come in. On Saturday afternoon a team of local cricketers went to Pukchou to try conclusions with the College team. The ground was very soft and the College team, who batted first, had all the best of it, putting up 94 runs, of which AVhibley scored 43. Otane could only make 25 in their first innings and 56 in the second. It is hoped to enter a combined team from the- two clubs in the local association competition.
