Garratt surprised a laager at Losbcrg, inthe Transvaal, capturing 8 Bosri and a quantity of transport. Three hundred Boers invaded Vrybnrg distriot; 160 traversed to PbilHpstown, and are now westward of Stydenberg. . Scheeper's followers were chased in the vicinity of Ladysmith. Private Fred Blunt, of the Fifth New Zealanders, was accidentally killed at Tab Akplaats in April. Oorpl. D. Turner, of the Sixth New Zealanders, was severely wounded at Warmbads in April. - Dr Leyds aßked M. Deloasse to arrange with the Czar to grant Kruger an interview duriDg the Czar's visit at Canpengne, in France. M. Deloasse raised serious objections to the proposal, not desiring to cause a pro-Boer demonstration. Colonel Garratt's oolumn, which recently arrived at Kroonstad from a three months' trek, comprised the New Zealanders and Queenslanders. The prisoners taken inolude De la Key's brother Piet. A train was blown up between "vTaterval and Hamanskaal. 250 Boers rushed and set fire to the train, killing Colonel Vandeleur, of the Irish Guards.
MEASLES RAGING
DEATHS IN THE BOEB CAMPS. CHASING DE "WET. FIGHT AT JOSKRAAL; London, September 1. Measles is raging in the concentration camps, 1086 deaths being reported in July. 860 were ohildren. Everything is being done for the eomfort of the sufferers regardless o: cost. Goods for commercial purposes to the value of a million were imported into the Transvaal during the halfyear ended June. Women looted Jagersfontein, eonyeying to farms everything of value. Captain H. N. Sohofield, of the Artillery, has been awarded the Viotoria Cross for bravery at Colenso. Dartnell commands a column of irregular horse, Davies accompanying: The object of the column is to chase De Wet. In the fight at Joskraal on the 28th fit* British were killed and twelve wounded. The Waterval-Hamanskraal train was derailedin a cutting. The Bo«rs,. firing at close quarters, killed 10 and wounded 17 out of an escort of 45, chiefly-belonging to the West Biding Regiment.
