Wakganui, This day. Wanganui beat Hawlce's Bay on Saturday by 10 points to 3. NEW ZEALAND v. NEW SOUTH WALES. "Wellington, This day. The Sydney footballers put up a good game on Saturday against a manifestly superior New" Zealand fifteen, and although the result went much against them, they made a gallant fight, and were by no means overwhelmed. In the Brat half four trieß were scored by the New Zealanders, and a goal was kicked from one, making 14 to none. Duncan charged the full-back almoEt at the kick off, and the ball rebounded over the line, affording the skipper an easy try. Some of the Sydney men thought Duncan knocked it on, and there was a certain amount of doubt on the point. Next Smith kicked the ball hard over the line, and following with a lightning run got there before it orossed the dead line. The third try was a remarkable effort of Duncan's, who secured the ball some distance out, and fairly beat the whole of the men opposite, who thought each instant he intended to pass and let him run in. From this Wood kicked a goal. To Jacobs fell the next score, and at the same time Coßtello got a bump on the head which brought on slight concussion, and the New South Wales captain had to be taken away on a stretcher. Avern replaced him. In the second section, having the wind, the Sydney backs went in for high kicking and flinging the ball about freely. To oppose these tactics the New Zealand forwards opened out and kept the ball at toe. From one of their rushes Diake and Purdue got a'fcry between them, and later Jacobs, by a tremendous dash, got acioas again. Just before time Shortland and Lindsay, who, in concert, had done some very good work, beat the New Zealand fullback, and got a well-deserved try. The game thus ended—New Zealand 20, New South Wales 3. The weather was beautiful, and there must have been nearly 8000 people present.
