EDUCATION BOARD.

The adjourned meeting of the Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present — Messrs Brandon (chairman), Andrew, Iveson, Hutcheson, Watt, and Graham. The deputation who had waited on the Superintendent reported that his Honor, while regretting his inability to place any sum upon the estimates as a grant to the Board to come of revenue, still, in order to prevent delay in the erection of schools and residences for which an urgent necessity existed, he was willing to make advances where necessary to an amount not exceeding £2000, to be charged hereafter against- the loan. It was resolved that Mr Watt be authorised to carry out the proposed additions and alterations to the Wanganui schools as contemplated by resolution No 2 of 30th April. The draft of the report to the Provincial Council was then considered, when it was resolved that the resolution embodied in the letter to the Provincial Secretary on the proposed amendments to the Education Act be included in the report, and that the report be finally considered at their next meeting, The Chairman having stated that the Roman Catholic clergymen of the city were anxious to meet the Board with a view to coming to some arrangement relative to their schools, it was decided that a special meeting be held with that object to-morrow at 11 a.m. to met the rev gentlemen. Mr M'Donald's letter was read with reference to the Sunday schools being conducted in the schoolroom, which is also the teacher's residence, and which caused considerable annoyance to the teacher. The Secretary was instructed to write to the clergyman on the subject. A letter from the chairman of the Cainarvon school building committee was read, asking that they might be allowed to change the site ; and on Mr Graham's representation that the change was a desirable one, the request was agreed to. Sundry small items of expenditure on the Te Aro school were agreed to, and the chairman and secretary were instructed to take such steps as might be necessaiy for the removal of the present closets to a more suitable position. The meeting adjourned till the following day at eleven a.m.
