TOWN BOARD.
A. meeting- of t.ha Board took place yesterday afternoon at 3 p.m. Present — J. Dransfiold, Esq, (Chairman), Messrs E. W. Mills, Moss, Carpenter, Mantoll, Quin, and Capt. Sharp. Mr Edward Pearce called the attention of the Board to the necessity of inserting a drain on Lambton Quay, opposite Mr Moore's property 5 but after some desultory conversation, he left the matter in the hands of the Board. A conversation of a very interesting character took place relative to the extension of Mr Beck's water pipes to the adjacent streets. A letter was received from Mr Beck on the subject, but its consideration was postponed till next meeting of the Board. Mr Howard, Dock street, hnnded a cheque to tho Treasurer for the sum of £15, and it was agreed that Dock street repairs should be proceeded with forthwith. . It was agreed, on the motion of Mr Carpenter, to erect a guard post at the corner of Molesworth and Pipitea streets. A letter from Mr Clapham was referred to tho Engineer. Ono from the Central Fire Brigade, asking a contribution from the Board to buy new hose was read, when it was agreed to grant the sum of twenty-five pounds for that purpose. The. following tenders for cartage were opened : — Frederick Bills, 10s 6d per day ; Gieles Youmans, 10s per day ; Pudney and others, 10s per day. Mr Pudney's tender was accepted. Notice to bo given to Mr Tonka to remove the encroachment on Custom-house quay, at the end of the Queen's Wharf. Balance at tho credib of the Board, £43 7s 2d ; oxpenditure Bince last meeting, £258 Vs lOd. A letter from Mr Buck's solicitor, respecting the drainage of Hill street, was referred to the Engineor for his report. Dp Hector asked leave to erect a meridian mark in Bolton street and carry a telegraph wire from Lambton Quay to the observatory, which was granted. A letter from Dixon and others, Tinakori road, respecting kerbing, was referred back for further, particulars. A letter from Mr Tagg, offering to lease a section of Town Belt, was postponed for further consideration. It was agreed that,- if Mr Bannieter had not complied with the conditions of the lease of the Town Belt, that he be ejected forthwith. * The Board then adjourned.
