CcrvraiDiNa op a Bank President. — Tho New Orleans Republican of October 19 says : — " One of tho depositors in the lat;o First National Bank of New Orleans was F. Bauer, dealer in trunks, musical instruments, &c, No 38 Campstreet. It is stated that tho amountof his deposit was about §18,000 and that it was made about twonty-four hours before tho bank closed. Yesterday, about twelve o'clock, Mr Bauer, while walking along Carondelot street, with a brush and pot of marking-ink in his hand met Dr. D. B. Forbes, the late president of tho First National Bank, and immediately saluted him thus : — ' You rascal, you lsavo ruined me and my daughter !' Bauer, immediately grasped Forbes, the markingink flow over his face and. clothing, and tho sidewalk was bespattered with it.' The spectators who heard the exclamation opened tho way for Bauer to punish Forbes, presuming that it was an affair of ci-ivninal intrigue- Bauer for n while had his own way, with one hand twisting tho financier's neck-tio and choking him so that his tongue protruded, and with tho other laying the cowhido over Ins head and shoulders in no gontle blows. Forbes at length broke his cane over Bauer's shoulders, but waa still wincing under the terrible strokes of the cowhido and tho disgrace of the punishment inflicted on him, when Bauer, having satisfied his anger, released tho financier from the unpleasant position which he was forced into. By this time several hundred people were collected around tlie antagonists ; and the .ex-president of the bank, whoso complexion could not bo distinguished in consequence of the profusion of marking-ink upon his person, rushed into a cab, and wenfc up Oarondcletstreet." ■■
