Original Correspondence.

(To the Editor of the Wellington Independent.) Sir, — Having heard that an Agricultural Exhibition is to take place at Mr. Hunter's stockyard, some time in November, and not having seen it in your journal, I doubted my information ; but again hearing it, I thought I would write you upon the subject, as to the truth of the report. But, Sir, my principal object in writing, is not whether Ceres is going to be thought of, but whether Flora and Pomona are to be forgotten, when we know, that Melpomone, Terpsichore, Eutyope, and Erato are so well represented. This has been a lovely spring for the Parterre aud Fruit Garden, as far as wo have at present reached, and I should auger much for an Exhibition for Horticultural productions of all kinds this summer, if the weather holds as genial as at present ; and it is a question with many, why it is that Wellington, with 5,000 inhabitants cannot do so much as many villages in England, not containing a population of 200. Ido not know of any Society, that would confer a greater benefit on the Town, Province, or Colony, than a well conducted Horticultural Association ; it tends to cement all classes of society more than any other, for while it elevates the humble, it does not degrade the noble, its pui'poses are to increase the growth of the beautious, as well as the productions of nature ; it would enhance the taste, excite the desire to have the finest flower the largest vegetable for consumption. There are many now desirous to see one started, but when so done, it ought to have a good working committee, with an intelligent secretary working with them. His Excellency Sir George Grey might be induced to become the Patron of the Society, and possibly our respected Superintendent would assume the President's chair. This, however, is only a suggestion of my own, as the choice of office-bearers would of course rest with the members,

With respect to the office of Vice-President it would 1 think be advisable to have twelve, during the year, each holding office for one mouth, in rotation. The Judges to be appointed should be fully competent for their task, and not simply because they have J.P. or M.L.C attached .to their names. With the consent of the members of the old . Association, the scheme could ba commenced at once, by having the funds now in the Bank transferred to the new Association. I am, Sir, your'u Veronica,
